Full mouth reconstruction refers to rebuilding and or replacing all of the teeth in a patient’s mouth. Full mouth reconstructions combine aesthetics with the science of restorative dentistry to improve the health, function, and beauty of the mouth.
Full mouth reconstruction may be indicated in the people whose teeth have been lost due to decay or trauma, whose teeth have been injured or fractured, whose teeth have become severely worn as a result of long-term acid erosion due to foods, beverages, acid reflux or tooth grinding, and also in the people who have ongoing complaints of jaw, muscle and headache pain requiring adjustments to the bite.
The examination process requires records of your mouth, such as X-rays and photographs, impressions of your upper and lower teeth, models of your teeth that are made from the impressions and a model of your bite. Your dentist may also refer you to specialists like periodontist, orthodontist, prosthodontist, oral surgeon for a consultation in order to develop a treatment plan that is best for you and to facilitate the best possible outcome.
The treatments can include crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and dental implants that will provide not only a “smile makeover”, but improved chewing efficiency for the patient.
